[4th Gen : 01-07]: 2004 Dodge Caravan stalls after gas fillup
Hello,
This evening I filled up the tank on my 2004 Dodge Caravan SXT van. After I left the gas station the van completely shut off. I pressed the brakes, turned the gear back to park, turned the van off and then back on and it was back up and running. I was able to drive home (about 5 miles) without any problems. This was a problem several years ago (prior to me joining Dodge Forum) and I guess the problem resolved itself but its back. The gas tank was recently changed because previously I could smell gas whenever I would drive the van for some time. The mechanic said the tank was cracked and thus he replaced it (cost me $425). I don't smell gas anymore. Prior to replacing the tank I would fill the gas tank and the van would not stall at all.
I've read a few forums which said not to fill the tank at all. I understand this is a workaround but is there a solution to the problem rather than a workaround?
Thank you!

Solution - tell the mechanic he installed a gas tank with a faulty vapor valve (the true name escapes me). He'll have to replace the tank again as the valve is built into the tank. This valve, located at the top of the tank, is designed to close and seal as you fill the tank. If it doesn't fuel backs into the EVAP system charcoal canister and floods the engine with too much fuel.
