Default flywheel cover/shield

I have a 2009 grand caravan se with a 3.3 litter v6 flexfuel engine that I bought in december. I was underneath it yesterday for the first time and noticed there seems to be a small maybe 5 or 6 inch by 1 to 1.5 inch plate missing from the bottom engine side of the flywheel cover. Is this normal and safe or do I need to find one to replace it?

If you have a 4 speed transmission, you are missing a tin plate, keeps dirt out of the convertor. Would be nice to have. If you have a 6 speed transmission, you are missing a structural piece and it should be replaced.
