My husband is trying to replace the caliber on the rear drivers side of my dodge 2010 grand caravan. He is not able to release the emergency brake in order to remove the caliber? How is this done on this vehicle? Help.

Why is he replacing the caliper? Is it bad, or is it that he just can't get the caliper piton to go back in? These newer vans (and a lot of other newer rear disc brake vehicles for that matter) have pistons that need to be screwed back in, not just pushed.

If that's the case, this video might help.

I've had stuck calipers before.. I just detached the hose, undid the two bolts, and used a hammer to knock it off. Don't try to rebuild calipers with kits just get a new one and use your old as core to get almost all your money back.

Rotors are so cheap you might as well put a new one on. It just slides off after the caliper is off..

Emergency brake has nothing to do with this it's a caliper inside the rotor behind the bearing.. Hammer the rotor off if you need to then spray lube the e-brake caliper through space between bearing while you have rotor off.

Be thankful you have disc brakes..
