Default 2006 grand caravan sxt what is this?


my wife just bought this vehicle and we are wondering what sensor is this, it is in the bottom of the middle vent right above the passenger air bag light. thanks for the help Bob

That is the infrared temperature sensors for the Automatic Temperature Control.

As described in the owners manual:
Automatic Temperature Control — If Equipped
The Infrared Three-Zone Automatic Temperature Control
System automatically maintains the interior comfort level
desired by the driver and all passengers. This is accomplished
by using two infrared sensors, located in the
center of the instrument panel.
The two infrared sensors
independently measure the surface temperature of the
driver and passenger. Based on the sensor input, the
system automatically adjusts the air temperature, the air
flow volume, and amount of outside air recirculation.
This maintains a comfortable temperature even under
changing conditions.
