Question 3.3 VIN code ?

My 1993 Caravan hood says 3.0 liter on the sticker and the current 3.3 in it has the typical yellow-marker junkyard replacement engine markings. I know a hood can easily be replaced as I replaced one on my other 1993 due to them easily "folding" but the fading in one area blends with the fender; it looks original

Probably slim, but Im wondering if someone stuck a 3.3 in it, or is there a VIN code for a 3.3 ?

Check the 8th character in the VIN:
3 = 3.0L
K = 2.5L
R = 3.3L

It's totally possible. Could have had a 3.0 and dumped a trans as the pre-94 670s weren't known for holding up.

Another possibility is a mild accident early in life, leading to a hood replacement, or an accident that replaced the front clip. This would explain the fading blending as all the parts could have came from the same van.

3.3L were R code IIRC. 3.0s were code 3. Should be 8th digit

Thanks; it's an "R"

I guess the hood and fenders were replaced.

That's what it looks like, thanks for the input.

As for the tranny; the van has 257K on it and runs/drives and shifts perfect so I suspect the tranny has been rebuilt; from what I've researched few in those years passed 140-150,000 miles.
