Unhappy 1989 Dodge/Ram Truck Caravan 2.5L TBI SOHC 4cyl distributor not turning

I have a 1989 Dodge Caravan Cargo Van, 2.5L TBI SOHC 4cyl.

I've had this van for about 2 years now and it's got 85,000+ miles on it. It has been running great until last week when it just died as I pulled into a driveway and would turn over but not restart. I figured it was electrical in nature so had it towed home.

My buddy came over and we started checking things and found a bad coil so I replaced it but still wouldn't start. I noticed the sound of the engine turning over was different somehow, so he checked the distributor and found that it wasn't spinning when turning over. We pulled it and all looks fine, almost new, so our conclusion is that the problem must be the distributor gear assembly, which is internal.

So my question is... what do I do now to get it running again?

Pull the top timing cover and make sure your timing belt isn't broken.

Classic signs of a busted timing belt.
