Well after much research on the subject it would seem the only cure is to pull the lifters and clean them. Seems to work ok other than the tapping, so I may just put 2 tires on it and run it.

 

and turn the radio up

 

My speakers are so bad I think the radio actually sounds worse than the tapping.

Update: Back in the summer I ran a qt. of ATF in my engine for about 500 miles. Well I have noticed that since the oil was changed it is staying much cleaner. I have almost 2000 miles on it and it is still light colored, unlike before. I have also noticed with the oil thicker in cold weather tapping is not as prominent as before. I may try a heavier grade next change.
