Default Power Steering Shudder

Hi,

I just replaced the power steering fluid. I disconnected the return line and pumped fluid into a pan. Since I have replaced the fluid, I now have a "shudder" when turning the wheel.

Is there air in the system? I did not raise the front end and turn the wheels, could this be the issue?

Thanks

Today, I replaced the power steering reservoir after researching that it could solve the problem. The shudder improved a little, as did the whine. However, there is still a shudder/sputter when turning the wheel at low speeds.

Any thoughts?

Air in the system is some of the cause. It is also very common and hard to get rid of once you have it. I have a vacuum pump with a rubber stopper that I use to apply a vacuum to the system and remove the air. I can take up to 5 minutes of vacuum to remove all the air.

Thanks for the reply. I own a vac pump, not sure if a friend still has it. I will see if I can find it, and try it. Thanks.
