[5th Gen : 08+]: Plastic Dipstick Top Broken Off
Howdy - the plastic top of my dipstick broke off while I was trying to pull it out to check the level. I'm going to try to drill a small hole in the remaining plastic, screw in a small screw, then attempt to pull it out. If successful I plan to pour some oil down the tube to clean out any plastic remaining from the drilling then immediately change the oil.
Is this the right course of action? Is there anything I need to know before ordering a replacement dipstick (e.g. need a gasket for the dipstick)?
I'd appreciate any advice from those who have done this before. Thanks!

Another option is to remove the dipstick tube, it is held on with one bolt and is press fit into the engine. I haven't seen a 4.0L engine so I don't know if it is easily accessible.
If this is for your 2009 with the 4.0L the part number is : 4593604AA (Engine Oil Level Indicator)

I've done what you're suggesting and it works fine. It shouldn't be a problem especially if the dipstick is sealing the dipstick tune. I wouldn't even bother with pouring oil down the hole as the o-ring on the dipstick will keep the dirt out.
Removal of the old dipstick won't take much pulling, you just have to be patient when inserting the screw after drilling the hole. You don't want to push the dipstick father down the tube.
