Default 03 Gas Gauge and Speedometer going haywire?

Wonder if anyone can offer a suggestion. I was just driving my van 141,000 miles and out of nowhere the fuel gauge went all the way to empty (made the ding noise) and then back up to 3/4 (where it actually is), at the same time the speedometer went from 25 mph all the way to 120 mph, and back, and then after a few seconds seemed to re-set and was okay a few minutes later it did it all again. A few minutes later I told my husband and when he started it, it did the same thing, and then seemed to reset.. and was fine for his short drive. It's running fine but freaking me out. I am supposed to drive it an hour to the airport, any idea if it is safe to drive? Any suggestions?

That can be the first signs of weak power meaning, a battery, battery cable or battery connection problem. Make sure the battery post connections are clean and tight and have a load test done on the battery.

Thanks again for the suggestion. The battery cables were becoming corroded. My local mechanic cleaned them up and it's been behaving ever since! Thank you so much.

Happy to help. If you can find the time please come back in a couple of weeks and let us know how it's doing. It needs a little time to prove itself.
