[4th Gen : 01-07]: 2005 dodge Caravan Transmission problems, computer has no codes.
Where to begin, I have a 2005 dodge caravan put new tires on it ended up with massive tranmission problems. I let is sit for a year finally started working on it. I have no trouble codes. I put a newish tranmsission in it. Seems to have taking care of the slippage isssue. And the old tranmssion has metal shavings in it. But now this new transmission has the same issues. Except the slippage seems gone. It seems like when I accelerate from 1st gear I have no torque and just sits there and growls. Eventually it will pick up and accelerate. Goes to arround 20 km then decides to shift at 3,000 rpm. If I feather the throttle it will upshift. It will only shift into higher gears if I feather the throttle. and will only do 90k I've tried forcing it, to go faster but I draw the line at 3,000 rpm with it. cause i'm aftraid to cause engine damage. any help would be appreciated.
It seemed to be some improvement but it was a used tranmsission out of a autowrecker but i'm pretty sure it was a rebuild because it had numbers on the bellhousing written in white on the inside of the bellhousing of the transmissiona and the year of the tranny and motor size. Unfortunately it does run a little better. I did find alot of metal fragments in the old transmission. It's very curious because It has no codes but it's very sluggish when you accelerate from zero. then when it does pick up it will rev to 3000 rpm and probley higher if I feather the throttle it will downshift normally. It takes about 2 or 3 miles to get to 80 kmh. I really don't understand what's going on.
Oh it ran great until we changed the tires on the Van. I looked to make sure the tires were the correct size after. But I did notice if I tromped it that the transmission would seem to slip as well.
