[5th Gen : 08+]: Van AC stops working on long trips dealership wont help
I have a 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan. We took a trip from Phoenix to California and about 2 to 3 hours into the trip the AC started to barely blow both in the front and back. If you put your hand to the vent you could feel cold but almost no air was coming out. We had the air on high. We tried turning the air off for a little while but nothing worked. Once we stopped for a few hours and then got back in the air worked fine. It worked the whole time in California. But it did the same thing on our way back to Phoenix after about 2-3 hours in the car with the air on high. The air works fine for local trips even a 45 minute drive. I tried to take it in today and the service guy at the dealer ship said he cant do anything since it's working fine now. He said once the problem happens again bring it right in and they will check it out. Only problem is I'm going back to California in a couple weeks and I don't want it to happen again and I can't just bring it back while I'm on my way to California as this only happens on long trips. It's over 100 degrees in Phoenix now and I need AC for a 6 hour drive. Any thoughts on what it could be or how to help?
Unusual to say the least for both front and rear blowers to fail at the same time. The common points are the HVAC panel and the TIPM (fuse box). Something there is heating up and failing. Looks like your best option is the dealership (warranty??). I would use a combo of driveway idling and driving it around till it fails then get it to them asap.
