Hi all,

Seems this could plenty of things but i've noticed there is a distinctive pop/clank noise coming from the rear of the engine (closest to firewall).

The engine has been running with the usually clattering that i've read were pretty normal for these engines but the new noise has escalated and seem to be getting worse.

-Engine does suffer from the intake manifold gasket leaking coolant (i've kept a close on eye on coolant and the gauge has never exceeded 50%)

-Engine has fresh oil and coolant.

-Gas mileage seems poorer then usual (not 100% sure)

-Power delivery seems fine

-Noise is obvious at idle, and with throttle (maybe less with throttle)

-A/C on or off - noise is still there

Any ideas ? Savable ?

Try removing the serpentine belt then start the engine, if the noise goes away you will know it is something in the accessory drive line.

 

Alternator clutches are one of the common noise makers on your generation van.
