[4th Gen : 01-07]: Blower motor only works on high.
Hello, I'm having what appears to be a fairly common problem with my 2002 Dodge caravan. The blower motor only runs on high. I tried replacing the resistor as I was told that was probably the issue. It didn't help. The resistor got really hot, really fast. What is my next step? Blower motor replacement?
It’s normal for the resistor to get hot - it’s mounted in the air stream to help keep it cool. But If the wiring is getting hot, you should be concerned. Signs that the wiring has been getting hot include insulation that’s shrunk and pulled away from the connector and wires that seem to be “glued” or bonded together.
It’s probably the blower motor - the brushes and contacts can wear out and impede current flow over time. You can try removing it and blasting some compressed air through it to clean it, but even if that does work, it’s only a temporary fix.
You can verify the controls are working by replacing the blower motor with an incandescent test light. With the key on, the light should increase and decrease in brightness as the fan control is changed from off/low speed to high speed.
