[5th Gen : 08+]: Fueling shuts gas pump off numerous times
Dodge CaravanThe Dodge Caravan is the best selling mini van from Dodge. How many Dodge Caravan owners here at DodgeForum.com would agree? Discuss it now!
I have a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3L SE that when I go to put fuel in, It constantly clicks the nozzle off. So I have to very slowly and carefully let it almost drip in when filling with gas. What could be causing this?
The primary cause of this is the fresh air inlet filter for the vapor canister/vent valve/leak detection pump (I can’t recall exactly where it hooks up) getting too restricted by dirt and not allowing for proper tank ventilation when filling up.
What can often happen is dirt works its way past the filter and ends up ruining the canister or valve. You’ll have to remove the filter to inspect.
The image below shows the fresh air filter - it’s located on the top left of the tank. The tank has to be partially lowered to access and remove it - you’ll have a better view if you remove the left rear fender liner.
Thank You. Getting that replaced today. I would have done it myself but do not want the hassle of dropping the tank. I did replace the ESIM myself and that took care of the engine light. But still have the problem of filling tank as the gas pump nozzle keeps shutting off as I pump gas. So I guess I will just get a mechanic to change #2 in picture as recommendedFILTER-FUEL VAPOR VENT Mopar Part No.:4891994AA
