[5th Gen : 08+]: Pliable Gasket Dressing on Lower Intake??
Hello,
2012 Grand Caravan, 3.6L, 130K
After removal of the lower intake, inspection found that there was a thick, pliable tacky substance on the lower intake gaskets, and the substance lined the whole length of each six chambers. I found this interesting because the manual says nothing of using a gasket helper. The manual wants the lower intake's six individual gaskets installed dry. I was surprised to see such a thick, tacky substance. The substance wasn't just on the inside of each gasket, as if the gasket had done its job, rather it also was on the mating surface on each side of the gasket. Maybe this substance is a natural residual from the use of synthetic oils? If it is, does this mean all six of my chambers were suffering from leakage?
I'm guessing it's not gasket helper, but I am asking in the minor chance that someone may know these gaskets need help sealing, and that these gaskets may be prone to leaking.
I would also like to ask if anyone has any experience using a pliable/liquid durable gasket dressing when installation is supposed to be dry and how it turned out.
Thanks for any helpful advice you may have,
Dave
