2011 Grand Caravan Won't Fire, among other things...
Hey Guys,
So I've got a few issues with my 2011 Grand Caravan. I was driving home and the van started to sputter intermittently, as I was pulling into my driveway it died. I managed to fire it back up and pulled some codes off of the computer. P0300 Random Misfire, which makes sense with the vehicle acting the way it is.
I replaced all 6 spark plugs, gapped them all to 0.043. Put everything back together and now the van turns over but won't fire. If I hold down the gas pedal when I turn the key it almost fires but then dies right after. I took everything apart again and double checked that I had put everything back where it was supposed to be. When I did this I found a decent sized spring inside the plastic housing just before the throttle body. I'll attach a picture.
Did you check if your fuel pump hasn't died turn the key to on and listen if you can hear the pump cycle if not check the fuse if good it could be a bad fuel pump relay in the TPIM. Dodge use to sell an external relay kit but I think it's no longer available but there's a relay bypass kit you can buy and if you're knowledgeable you could build you own. You could spray a little bit starter fluid in air filter hose to see if the engine start and runs this will confirm you have a fuel problem. The spring is from oil filter bypass valve on 2011-2013 the bypass valve is made out plastic after awhile it become brittle and break then the valve and spring can shoot out of the tower. If don't do your oil change some places like to take the air filter cover off and lay it to the side in order to get better access to the oil filter cover most likely this happen and the spring shot out and landed in the air filter cover luckily it didn't go in the engine. I would check to see the oil filter bypass valve is in place if not you're running unfiltered oil into your engine. Most car parts store carries the Dorman oil filter bypass kit.
