Default AC Repair, Ripoff?

[2001 Dodge Grand Caravan]

So my AC is mostly out and I brought it to a Midas and they wanted $420 to replace some hose near the front of the vehicle.

Honestly, it looked all too perfect as they showed me "green liquid" coming out of the seam in the hose when the metal meets the rubber. I just got a weird vibe, you know?

Should I bring it to a regular mechanic you think? I do not mind investing in my vehicle but I got screwed once and it left me with Post Traumatic Repair Disorder.

Take it to a shop that specialize in auto a/c repair they'll have the special tool to do the job for the recovery of the refrigerant and the recharge of the system. the green is a dye that usually shops put in the refrigerant so it easy to identify possible leaks detection. If there was any green liquid oozing out it's a leak.

Agree with Mopar, take it to a real AC repair shop, at least you will get another diagnosis and another quote to compare with.

Can you give me an example of a real AC repair shop? I thought midas was one of those.

Also, what about the green fluid, I feel like they could’ve just drip some on there themselves.

Any other shop that specializes in automotive AC repairs besides Midas. Ad you never know about the green fluid until you have someone else look at it.

UPDATE: Wow, yes, I knew my senses were right about that Midas. I brought my van into a highly rated mechanic and they said it was only leaking out of the intake where you fill the freon. So it was only a $150 job. That same mechanic noted some other repairs (which I knew I needed, rear shocks were leaking) and they got the job because of it. Getting ready to drive cross country so I threw a tune up in as well which it needed.

Thanks all.
