[4th Gen : 01-07]: Replacing intake manifold gasket
I've got the old gasket out, cleaning surfaces now to prep for the new gasket.
Having a hard time getting some of the crud cleaned off. I've been using carb cleaner, but it's not getting everything off. Any suggestions for what to use instead of carb cleaner? I tried brake cleaner, and throttle body cleaner, neither did any better.
I don't have a garage, so I'm working outside. There's only a short window on days it's warm enough and not raining, so it's taking a long time to finish.

I know its an old tread , but in case somebody new has the same problem - .......I always use a scraper to remove gaskets and then some acetone to clean the lefotover , if any ...... cheap 1$ window scrapers with the standard 1,5 ? inch steel blades - they are widely available in packs of a 100....
Very old thread, I know.
Replacing the intake manifold gasket didn't work, it still leaked. It sat for a long time, as I got another car, meaning to take the van to a mechanic. I finally did, about a month ago.
Turned out the coolant was leaking from the timing chain cover. Had that repaired, along with a few other things while they were at it. Even if I'd figured that one out, I wouldn't have wanted to fix it myself. That's a pretty involved repair, and I don't do well underneath a vehicle, not having access to a lift.
I'd never heard of that particular issue before, do I googled it. While it doesn't happen frequently, it's apparently a known issue for this model, 2005 Grand Caravan SE.
