Default Alternator issues

Old faithful has decided to make me work. Was otw home from work and started to get the battery light on my dash. Went away and reared its head again. This time, i was watching my voltage when the van started shifting out of gear and saw my voltage was dancing around, 5v to 8v to 14 to 12 to ....you get the point. Parked it and made it a side project and carpooled with wife. Now i cant afford a new pcm so i did the external voltage regulator mod, and things seemed fine. Ran for a few hours at idle with no issues, load and no load, called it a success with new Volt Reg and new battery. Started it up, went driving and about 5 min down the road i drop to 12v batt voltage and then battery light again. Tried again and it charged for abit then stopped. I already rechecked my wiring on the voltage regulator its good. Could this really be the alternator going out too? Im stumped and gotta get this thing working asap. Now im at the point i sit at battery voltage all the time with no charging at all. Thank you.

Im down to alternator or possibly voltage regulator was bad when i bought(new).
