2007 Dodge Grand Caravan Steering Wheel Shaking and Front End Clunking Noise
2007 Dodge Grand Caravan has recently developed very weird front end shaking problem. The van is running with very loud clunking noises. The steering wheel is shaking left and right badly at very low speed, but gets better when speed increases, specially when the speed goes beyond 70 mph. But the problem is not going away, and it seems getting worse after I put another 5000 miles on the van. The brakes on both sides are good with new rotors and brake pads just put on before the trip. So I checked the entire front end after the trip. The shocks and springs, wheel hubs, tie rod ends, drive axles, ball joints are all solid with no plays at all. Everything seems good, but the van still rides crazy, the steering wheel is shaking very badly now (when put on D, without peddling any gas, the van goes straight but the steering wheel goes left and right for about 30 degree turn if I don't hold the steering wheel, still, it gets better when increasing the speed, when I drive to the highway, the steering wheel shaking gets better but the clunking noise gets worse)
Anyone has the same experience as this before? or any idea what could be the cause of this problem?
Many thanks!
One additional note: I just jacked up the front end with both left and right wheels in the air and put the van on Drive, I noticed the two wheels are sometimes not running in sync. Sometimes the left (or right) wheel stops when the other wheel is still running. I asked my assistant peddled the gas and increased the speed, same thing, even when the RPM gets to 2000, sometimes one wheels stops while the other wheel is still running. Don't know if this causes the steering wheel shaking and clunking noise? and what causes this?
I have a 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.6 Liter R/T. My AC Compressor seized and I am going to bypass it. My problem is I went to Autozone and got the same exact size as the original belt which is obviously no help. Do anyone know the exact size I’ll need to use to bypass the AC?
Don't know some possibilities.
Try disabling ABS System some sort of traction issue.
Jack both tires off ground. Try rotating tires by hand listen for clunks or feel jamming.
Internal damage to a drive shaft.
Differential problem.
