[5th Gen : 08+]: 2017 Dodge Caravan Overheating
I have a 2017 Dodge Caravan SXT with 123,000 km. Yesterday, I drove around 35 km without any issues, at all speeds, except for consuming fuel quickly. On my way home, about a block away, my acceleration slowed down, the engine started to get hot (reaching about 3/4 on the dashboard gauge), and the check engine light came on, followed by a low voltage warning. The code showing was P0117. Shortly after, the engine died.
I tested the battery (it's the original one), and it read 12.6 volts. After turning the car on and off a few times, it would power on briefly but then stop. Today, I replaced the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor, which cleared the check engine light issue. However, the overheating problem persisted.
I topped up the coolant, bled the system, checked the oil, and added a liter. The car ran fine for about 45 minutes before the temperature gauge started climbing again. It went past 3/4, and within five minutes, I had to pull over because it reached the red zone, and the warning light came on. I changed the thermostat last year, and the heating works fine. There’s no engine light, and it idles well otherwise.
Any thoughts?
