[4th Gen : 01-07]: 2003 Caravan stalling issue
I'm dealing with a 2003 Dodge Caravan SE (3.3L flex, 220K miles) which developed the habit of stalling while driving in traffic. This has happened three times in the last month; fortunately I was the only vehicle on the road each time. The engine doesn't sputter and die, it just shuts itself off, just as if you shut it off with the key while the car was in motion.
Some time ago I had a problem with the SKIM key recognition feature, so I removed the ECM and had it reprogrammed with the SKIM deleted. After the ECM was reinstalled the car ran normally but the "red dot" warning light above the temp gauge continued to burn steady. I thought the problem might be the battery (it had one weak cell) so I replaced it with a new unit around Thanksgiving. The car seemed to behave normally, but the red dot still would not go out.
I have a code reader so I checked for posted codes which might be relevant. The only code I pulled up is P0001, which I believe is related to the fuel volume control. I've been told this could mean a defective fuel volume control unit, an open circuit in the fuel delivery system or simply a broken wire. Any ideas? Also, roughly how much to repair?
