[5th Gen : 08+]: Squeaky Brakes!!!
Hey all!
So, I had been starting to get a squeal/squeak from the brakes on my van, and a slight vibration in the steering wheel when braking. I figured front pads and rotors were due, as I did the rear pads and rotors almost exactly two years ago.
pulled off the tires, front pads and rotors weren’t bad, but they were definitely showing signs of wear. I replaced both using decent quality pads and rotors.
For a few days, the brakes were noisy but I followed the 30-30-30 bedding process and was just waiting for them to settle. After about 1000km (mostly highway driving) the squeal had returned and almost seemed louder.
I took the front brakes apart to make sure that I didn’t miss a piece of hardware and to make sure it was all lubed. All seemed normal.
I decided to inspect the back brakes as it is really hard to decipher where the squeal comes from. I discovered that the rear pads were almost totally shot, but the rotors were in decent shape. I guess it makes sense as I live on a fairly steep hill. I replaced the pads and then took the van for a drive. The squeal was still there!!!!
I am not really sure what’s going on. Did I just get a bad set of front pads? I am hesitant to keep tearing these brakes on and off to get the same result.
Anyone have a similar experience?
I’m at my wits end! Please help!!
Thanks in advance!! Cheers!
