Default How to Open Hood with Broken Cable?

Hello,

the cable broke and I am not able to open the hood from inside.
Is there a way to open the hood from outside?

Thank you.

It takes a bit but you can do it. Most of the time you can get by without breaking the grill. I hope you're fairly limber. I usually use a REALLY long screwdriver. If you look up under the edge of the hood. Look for the cable housing. It's usually a black tube like structure. It will go to the latch. Where the cable attaches to the latch, is the release lever. It will usually pull towards the drivers side. Pry the latch towards the cable housing. You might break the grill doing this as it isn't designed to be done that way. If you're careful, you can usually avoid that. There will be some resistance but you'll feel a POP and the hood will bump up slightly.

Open the hood and get some mechanics wire. Attached one end of the wire to the latch. Make this bypass wire long enough to reach out through the grill. I usually use a piece of small hose and make a loop through it to make a handle. Pull this to open the hood until you can replace the pull cable for the hood release. You also want to lubricate the hood latch. 3in1 motor oil makes a good lubricant. White grease is a bit still but it works too along wiht just a little dribble of engine oil.
