Default Body Control Module questions....

Hi all,

I have just bought a 1991 Grand Caravan LE (3.3L AWD).

There is one problem with it, none of the dash board works.

I have checked the wiring, check fuses, disconnected the battery overnight, etc, with no result.
So i gather the BCM is toast.

So i have a few questions about finding a replacement...

Will BCM's from similar Caravans (ie, same body shape, around the same year) work?
Or will the BCM need to be from another Grand Caravan LE?

What are the chances of finding a 2nd hand BCM that will work?

Can i just plug in a good 2nd hand BCM and have it work (ie, wont need re-programming, etc)?

Does anyone know of good places to look for a 2nd hand BCM in Calgary?

Thanks in advance!

Oh, i forgot a few questions...

Does anyone have wiring diagrams for this model or similar Caravan up on the net?

The trip meter mounted on the roof does nothing at all... is this controlled/related to the BCM?

I have a 1998 Caravan. My experience with used BCMs is that, yes, they will work in your van. However, the oddometer reading resides in the BCM and after it is relaced your oddometer will indicate the mileage of the van from which the BCM was removed. I put a used BCM in my van and the oddometer reading went from around 137,000 miles to about 244,000 miles. I spoke to a service manager at the local Dodge dealership about the possibility of reseting the oddometer reading. He spoke to one of his lead technicians and they tell me that it's not possible. Something to do with the VIN being burned into the chip. I don't see any difference in resetting a used one and "burning" the information into a new one. I thinkI may be getting the run-around. There are used ones available. Mine cost about $150. New ones are just over $600. A reputable local mechanic shop should have a source for used ones.

Maybe not much help---our 1998 Dodge Caravan had windshield wiper problems, they would only work when they wanted to. New Body Control Module seemed to solve it, after the dealership replaced the front wiper motor. That was last month, currently the Van is in shop to get a another new BCM installed (no cost to us) as the wiper now fail to park propertly and the automatic door locks, unlock while driving.

If I learn more I will post here.
