A friend has a 2001 Grand Caravan, 3.8L, 80K miles. The A/C stopped working. Blowers work fine, just not cooling. He had a shop look at it and they said the clutch needs to be replaced. My question is, should he go ahead and do the whole compressor or just the clutch? The shop said the system is fully charged so no leakage there.

The shop estimated $1000 for the job with a new compressor. Is that a fair price? I don't know if that included a new air dryer or not.
