Default Speedometer Help!

I have a Technical Question that I need help answering.

My Wife owns a 2000 Dodge Caravan 3.3L it has about 88,000 miles on it. I noticed it had trouble starting a couple of days ago. I suspect that its the Battery since it still has the Original one installed. But now the Speedometer has stoped working. I dont think that the two problems are related, but wasnt sure. Any Ideas pleasse help.

Thanks in advance!

Try starting with a new battery. 6 years is about typical for the life of the battery. Sometimes low voltage will affect other electrical components like the speedometer, but it may be a seperate issue. The speed sensor may have gone bad in the van. I've replaced one in my car and truck, but not in the caravan. Typically, you just have to remove the electrical connector, then take a bolt out that is holding the sensor in place. I'm guessing the sensor is located on the side of the transmission case, but I don't have my Haynes manual with me to check exactly where it is at. One you locate it, check to make sure the connection is tight and you have no breaks in the wires before replacing it. Good luck.

I'm wondering if one of these is the solution to my problem. My speedo just went dead the other day in my '02 Grand Caravan Sport. The light for the fuel gauge went out as well. I posted this in another thread, but did not see anything about the output sensor or battery as a possibility. Can anyone tell me how I would know if my output sensor was bad? Also, on a '02, where is the sensor located? Thanks for any and all help!

If the sensor is bad the spedo won't work and the transmission won't shift. The sensor is located on the transmission, it's the one furthest to the right, looking at the front of the transmissionfrom the front of the vehicle. I found it easier to access from below but you can alsoget toit from above by removing the air box.
