Default FUEL GUAGE ACTING FUNNY

Just bought a 2001 grand caravan, and noticed that the fuel guage on occasion decides to die and gives me a false "low fuel" reading. but then after a few seconds it goes back to where it should be.

Anyone have any idea where I should start on this problem?

thanks

Could be the fuel sending unit.
I belive the sending unit is integrated into the fuel pump. The whole assembly is about $200.

Joe,
Did you ever find the solution to this problem? My '96 GC does the same thing once it gets below 1/2 tank. The warning bell chimes, the light comes on and the fuel needle drops to zero. Then a few seconds later it goes back to half. It will do this almost continuously until I fill it back up.

You might try taking the fuel pump/sending unit out and checking the rheostat. It's made of several turns of fine wire that can wear and break. You might try to clean the windings or the wiper on the float arm.
