Default 01 Headlight Problems Hi/Lo Beam

When I turn on headlites, only left side low beam lit. When I go to high beam, left side goes out and right side comes on. What gives? I have replaced the halogen bulbs both sides.

As a new owner of a 98 Grand Voyager (yes it´s a Chrysler...I am from Sweden !) I have discovered that the 3 pin connectors ,the one that you put on the halogen bulb´s, was almost melted down ! So my right headlight was much weaker than the left one......well this does not answer your question !! But by the way you describe it, I should say it´s a earth problem...!
Check the black 3 pin connector...!

Hi Tim and clm !
I am pretty shure that it is a "bad connection" !!
Today a rebuilt my electrical wiring to the headlights... I connected the old H4 wires (0,5 mm² !! ) to a realy (40 A). New thicker wires (2,5 mm²), new H4 sockets, short wires from the battery ...and so on....and the Hi/Low beam was as good as new !!
This was a very brief description on how it could be done, if nessecery I can give more details...... ! :-)

Hi everyone. Same problem with my 2001 Grand Caravan. after replacing the FCM (front control module) to the tune of about $600, the problem came back a month later. This problem is very well described in the following thread on another site (hope this doesn't get pulled for cross-posting). Here is the problem statement, and one of the likely causes as stated above - faluty wiring or fuse block terminal:
[ul][*]Problem: When you turn the van on, the right headlight lights. When you turn the headlights on, the left headlight lights. When you turn the brights on, the right headlight lights. Always, only one light.[*]Resolution:Ours are finally fixed after two years and four different mechanics. Believe it or not, it was the dealer that finally solved our problem. I can't tell your right now what we tried before, but if you want to know, email me & I'll look it up. Here's what was done on August 22 this year and they are still working!"install sop PDC for headlight issue" that's listed on the workorder under labor. Under parts it says:"fp number 55102969-ab Block Non 8015009" That cost me about $300 parts & labor but it was worth it. I know it had something to do with the wires going in to the fuse box. [/ul]
Here's the link to this thread:

I plan to tear into the wiring this weekend and see if I can fix it myself.

Well, I took the front control module off of the fuse box, cleaned the contacts with electrical contact cleaner, then reinstalled the FCM. The problem went away!!

Before I tried this, I reseated all of the wires going into the bottom of the fuse box, but no help.

I think this problem may happen again until I replace the fuse box. One poster said his dealer installed shims between the FCM and fuse box to tighen up the connection....

Has anyone found a permanent fix for this issue? Apparently the Front Control Module is involved. I've pulled the IOD fuse (batt disconnect) and the problem is fixed on a short term basis and it comes back. Sometimes at night the second light will come on when it wants to. This would somewhat confirm the connection issue. I'll try the connection and see if it works, but this is problem is getting old. Appreciate any input you might have.

Default Headlight issue...

We were having the same problem. It had been going on for over 2 years now, we found that if you shimmy something in the bright/dim handle that both lights will stay on at the same time. we tried changing fuses, bulbs, nothing worked. Now the lights are completly gone. I contacted Dodge about this and they said they hadn't heard of the problem. I guess they should read the threads from this site. Shouldn't this be their problem? maybe if enough of us complain they will have to do something about it. It doesn't seem as if this is normal wear and tear.

The issue is usually spread terminals between the front control module and the underhood fuse box. Sometimes you can fix the teminals with a pick.

Had same problem with RAM 1500 , replaced headlight switch twice, looked into dimmer switch replacement when I found that the wires and blade conectors were over heated and pulled apart from switch! repaired that and got me a heavy duty light harness with inline releys that hook to Bat. I think that this might fix you up also.Got parts from LMCTruck.com same part fits other models cars and truck
