96 caravan, 3l. Fans will stay on after van is shut down. Happens randomly. Changed control modulator under the air box and was fine for 3 months. Now doing it again. In 3 days it has turned on randomly twice, It has never stuck closed. What do I do? Scanned it: "Rad Fan Control Relay Circuit open or shorted" Cycled relay test with scanner, everyhting seems fine. Where do I look, or replace...thx

 

replace the relay with a new (updated) one. Yep........go to the dealer $$$.

 

Second new one did the same thing after 1 week

 

Sounds like it may be a problem in the ECM. Or possible a short in the wiring somewhere. Sounds like the relay is getting a ground signal from somewhere.

If you work at a dealer, call S.T.A.R. Also look to see if there's a TSB on this problem. I've never ran across one like that. Usually the fans will not shut off and it kills the battery.
