Does anyone know why they have not released a diesel version of the Caravan here in the US?(I think they have one in Europe) It seems the 5cyl diesel in the Sprinters would be a candidate. With the better efficiency of diesels, I'm wondering overall why DCX has not done more with diesels here. Is there anyone else who would be interested in a diesel version of their Caravan?

 

I would love to see Dodge release a diesel minivan. Yes, they do sell one in europe, as the do a diesel powered Dodge Magnum, a diesel powered 300, and a caliber diesel. Personally I think dodge is nuts not to release more diesels. They have not figured out yet people want cars that get gas mileage.

I think part of the reason is the type of diesel fuel that is sold in the US. I think they only sell low sulfer fuel in Europe. The engines have to be modified to run this type of fuel, but they can't run on the less refined fuel that we have here. Many vehicles in Europe have diesel engines that can run on this type of fuel. But since the US hasn't switch over to this type of diesel yet, the engine manufacturer's can't use the European diesel motors in vehicles sold here. Plus, American's view diesels as big, noisy, smoking engines and have been slower to accept them in personnal vehicles. I think and hope this will change in the future.

 

Starting after 2008 there wil be diesels everywhere. DCX has diesels available for almost every vehicle it sells. Some are currently available in 46 of 50 states. Others will be availale when the high grade fuel gets here in a couple years. Right now as a RG body (export) minivan is available with a 4 cyl 2.5L or 2.8L diesel engine and a standard 5 speed manual trans.
