Default '95 Caravan won't downshift

My caravan (3.0, 3 speed auto) dosent downshift when coming to a stop. Sometimes it does sometimes it wont. When it dosent you call pull it into low with the gearshift or step on the throttle hard and it will downshift. It will downshift when moving (kickdown). Any help would be appreciated!![:@]

If the fluid hasn't been changed you might start there. The transmission in my wife's van doesn't downshift when pulling up to a stop sign and taking off again without actually stopping.Kinda' like a touch and go.When you take back off it drops down into first gear immediately and solid.
If I come to a complete stop,it starts out in first and shifts normally.

the 3.0's used a throttle/kickdown cable that goes through a tube. These are infamous for starting to fray or binding in the tube. Sometimes these cause poor shifting between gears and will wear out the tranny. A fluid/filter service as chopper said is a good thing to do, but I would look into the cable. The 4cyls and 3.3 and 3.8 have a different set-up, so this type of problem doesn't occur (the 3.3s and 3.8s have a whole slew of other probs with their trannies). Count yourself lucky you might have caught this problem early enough. Good Luck
