1999 a604 tranny 2k miles
Put a re-man tranny in my 1999 from phoenix hard parts. New Torque Converter and such. Drove it(actually wife did) less than 2k miles and from the color of the fluid last night, smoked a clutch pack or 2. Warranty on tranny is invalid because I couldn't register it due to paperwork/title probs within 30 days of putting tranny in the van. I can't believe A) the luck I have with these trannies and B) the junk engineering these trannies have. Can't decide what to do this time, need another vehicle, but can't be putting trannies in every 2 months.
Well , with wifes convincing, too this one to a tranny shop. Just got the call this morning and it appears the Torque converter blew apart, plugged the filter and cause the pump to cavitate with no fluid. They are doing a tear down now to find what else may have been affected. GOTTA LOVE"IT!!!
If Life (Chrysler) hands you Lemons, Plan on making A604 Lemonade to the tune of $2-3k !!!

Did you put the tranny in or did someone else? If the old transmission failed miserably and the transmission cooler was not flushed out of all the old fluid and debris, guess where that old fluid and debris went....right inside your shiney reman tranny.
I put it in , and it was flushed completely. Just spoke with the tranny shop this morning and all the guy said was the re-man I purchased was assembled with no updates and poorly done. Commented the flow through the cooler was exceptional for the mileage on the van. Due to paperwork delays with the van , my warranty on the tranny was voided because I couldn't fill out the warranty info within 30 days. Tranny place said input shaft had exceptional wear and wobble and I had (and I use his words) "catastrophic torque converter failure". Bottom line is I pick the van up tomorrow and another $2500 later I have a lifetime warranty on a tranny with all updates done to valve body and differential and the like....With this warranty, this ones gonna get the winter spin test for sure and not get babied. Original tranny failed due to dented leaky tranny pan, not major failure...
THIS AIN'T MY FIRST A604 RODEO AND IT PROBABLY WON'T BE MY LAST!

these transmissions are the first trannies to control all shifting action electronically
they can be your best friend, or your worst mightmare, lucky my only problems with them is chucking the diff pin 3 thru 3 of them from doing burnouts
they also adapt to your driving style, & adjust the shift patterns & firmness to the driver, like i trained my '94 to shift where i would manually anyways, i go to drive my moms '00, & its like omg SHIFT already!!!! takes forever, since its in "smooth" mode
there was alot of updates on these trannies, programing & parts, make sure your up to date
& you can't cheap out on them either, go to a known shop, ask around, who stands by their warrenties, & such
they are also very easy to remove & install, if i really puched it, i could do a swap in less then a day with hand tools
