I went looking for info about my 96 caravan and came across the site. I have two questions i'm looking for answers to. #1 is what could be causing my transmission to slip 4 times from startup and then lock into second (3.8/4auto), and if it is the trans will a 4speed from a 92 van w/3.8/4auto work in the 96?

 

Could be a number of things. The only way to find out is to take it somewhere and see what codes are stored in the transmission controller. No the trans from a 92 won't work, the 96 has a motor mount on the rear of the transmission where the 92 doesn't and there are no provisions for the mount either.

 

plus the electronics are different, different signals

also, have you checked your fluid?? whens was the last time it had a filter & fuid change, & be sure to run ONLY +4 in it, not +3 or something else with an additave
