'89 GC No Spark *Update* Recurred
been cleaning, checking etc. no luck.
used multimeter on everything I could - looks okay.
poured gas down throttle body - nada
cleared computer and only generating code 12 and 55 - no new codes
any ideas
89 2.5l non turbo.

You do have a 12 volt source at coil with key on.? also check ground at that point.
Ground strap on top of manufold to body good. Ground strap near bell housing to body?
Has tobe Elect. in some way?

The engine is a 3.0. Sorry I forgot to include that bit of info.
All the lights work, the starter cranks the engine over just fine, I hear the fuel pump run, just no spark at all.
I had this trouble last week. It was very humid, drizzly then and its been that way for a couple days now. It has to be related to the weather. Its raining now and has been all day so I won't be doing any diagnostics fora while.
Last week, after the temp dropped below freezing and the air dried out a bit, it started and ran fine til the humidity and drizzle started again.
I just don't know these systems well enough to know what to check. I had a code 12 and a code 17 last week. I didn't check this time before removing the battery to charge it back up. I now see a code 12 but nothing else.
I've been thinking its probably a sensor that is not getting its signal to the computer. I'll look the engine over and see if I can find something coming from the one of the cams.
I appreciate the help guys. I've been laid-off and just can't afford to send it to a shop. Gotta try to fix this myself. Old Jeeps and Mustangs I know pretty well, but this newer stuff is a learning experience.

12 volts at coil while cranking - holds, doesn't drop
battery less than a year old and keeping charged after each start attempt.
New ground strap put on a couple of months ago from the manifold and main ground strap cleaned and okay.
While checking with ohmeter for connectivity also checking for grounds - what I can check looks good.
Can't find a .33 microfarad capacitor for the checking the SMEC.
had a code 17 (running too cool) some time ago but put in new thermostat and that dropped once I totally disconnected the battery and grounded Pos/Neg together.
No new codes being generated, just 12 (disconnected battery which never drops out) and 55 (end of diagnostic)
89 Voyageur with 2.5 l nonturbo automatic. no AC

Oh yeah - in BC and weather been weird. THis happened after a massive rain fall Jan 1/2.
Testing has been hard with the weather - put a couple of heaters under the hood to see if could dry it out. no luck.
Snowing right now.
Other than the motor looks like the GC that started this post - got that code 17 and also got a code 25 (AIS motor) but mechanics locally say car should still start.

On another fourm some was is having the very same issue with a 02Stratus 2.7.
He has no ideals and others and myself are stumped.
You have voltage at coil with no spark. This would make one think the coil just took a dump?
You have check spark at plugs?

sorry - got voltage to coil and spark.
tried dumping some gas down throttle body - nada
Shutdown relay and starter relay okay
have tried finding a .33 microfarad capacitor with no luck and forgotten how capacitors work. One of the test for the coil and SMEC use this setup to trigger a spark and help isolate.
Seen enough posts re similiar problems and just throwing money (which I don't have) at it hasn't helped.
doesn't help being out of town either.
