Agree, can't figure out why SO heavy??

Also hope Dodge takes a page from Ford on "packages" for the Challenger. Ford does a nice job w/ "pony package" (fog lights, etc.), California Special model, can get "spoiler delete", interior polish upgrades, etc. We all know it adds to more efforts on the production line, but they are obviously offsetting it w/ the cost of the package. More importantly, greater choice for the enthusiast. So far we can choose sunroof, $50 tires and paint pretty much. Especially as Chrysler's President has expressed his displeasure w/ Chrylser interior looking "cheap". Unfortunately, the Challenger dash, for me was a big let down...

Some easy packages could be:

Shaker scoop (Classic Design probably has one of the drawing boards right now)
Strip packages (hockey stripe, strobe, "Hemi" or R/T)
Functional ram air (relocation of airbox, like on concept)
Choice of rims (just one other, like the Foose Rallye wheel would be awesome)
And hopefully the rumored Vanishing Pt and T/A packages

...Can hope anyway...

i think that things like youre talking about will surely show up in the aftermarket if chryssler isnt quick enough with offering them...

I would totally bet on that statement!!!! Its very early in the Challenger' frenzy' and over time you will be able to aquire lots of stuff for it. "Wheels", 'hot aftermarket tunes', wheels, suspension upgrades, etc..... If I was in the market for one I'd somehow try to hold out for the first year or so, let all the first year bugs get worked out and let some of the aftermarket get involved. If gas prices and other EPA crap don't hurt sales too much they will be alot of fun in a few years.

I don't think you can lose on that plan!!! I went thru this on another non-mopar brand and so am glad I sat back and watched. Many good things developed and I got what i wanted. I think the Challenger will be a great ride and if everybody plays their cards right they will be very happy with whatever 'option package' they decide. Also just something to keep in mind that most all 'higher hp' mustangs sold today aren't sold by Ford except the GT500/GT500KR. They are sold by aftermarklet specialty builders sold thru Ford Dealers. I.E. Roush, Saleen, Shelby, Foose etc. I have no doubt that several companies will start building 'specialty' Challengers that are even faster and are /more limited in production. That may be an alternative to some people that can't afford the very high end SRT8's but can still buy something in between regular production and the outrageous.... Also, the only high HP Stangs being sold for way over MSRP are factory Ford products, GT500 & GT500KR's. The aftermarket higher HP Stangs like the Roush Stage 3's 427R, 428R, BlackJacks sell for MSRP or lower and they are still produce very nice HP numbers so like what Ford has done I bet Dodge will also follow suit...Oh and don't forget the helfty gas guzzler tax, I paid that $1000 tax when I bought my 2007 car. Its included in the price of the car...

Best of luck with your Challenger future puchase.

Love it! And am glad to see Dodge to officially release the Challenger. Economic conditions make me worry.

But,,,,,, Had I known Challenger was coming, I would have waited on it instead of getting an '06 Charger SRT8. Don't get me wrong.. I love the hell outta my Charger, but just don't have the nickels to own both....

I'm looking forward to it too, but really anxious to see/hear what changes/options/packages may be coming in '09-'10 to figure out when to buy. Also want to compare Auto to 6speed. Though I'm 90% sure the 6 speed will be it.
