It looks great from the front.
When you walk to the side and see the Challenger quarters it looks really out of place.

Maybe i'm a purist?

I guess that I don't understand this either. Why do people want to take a Dodge and make a Plymouth out of it?

While I think the '71 Cuda was the best looking of all (that grill and the gills along with 4 headlights) it just doesn't work like you said when you get to the side and see the Challenger bodyline. I guess we are too purest.

i saw a few in person at SEMA this year, and some of them really look good...

The Challengers look good but i have to agree with every one els why would you want to make it look like a plymouth when its a Dodge Challenger not a Plymouth Challenger.
