Default iPod stopped working correctly

I have a 2019 Challenger SXT and for the first couple of weeks my iPod Touch was working perfectly. The other day I added some songs and now it seems the car is only able to play whatever album/song is currently playing on the iPod itself. I can no longer browse through my collection - well, I can browse but it does nothing. If I pick a new song through the browse feature it just keeps playing whatever was playing. I can skip to the next track or previous track of whatever album is playing via the console, and I can pause or start songs - but aside from that nothing seems to work. I've tried doing a factory reset on the iPod but that didn't change anything.

Has anyone seen this issue, and does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix? I can of course just use the iPod itself to change albums or whatever, but it's a lot more convenient through the car.

thanks
