Acording to hot rod mag they are planning to put out a lowend modle and a topend modle. The low end modle will have a V6 in it[:'(] and the top end modle will be a convertable with the same hemi as the srt-8

They need to have a 6 so they don't eliminate half of the buyers. Some people prefer style over substance. Plus they had a 6 cyl option in the 70s, why not now? Granted, I would get the 6.1, but 250 horses out of the 6 ain't bad for entry level!

This is my guess to the possible challenger models.
08 SXT - 3.5
08 T/A - 5.7 MDS
08 R/T - 6.1
08 SRT - 6.4

All of these would have a convertable option in late 08 or 09!

hey the 3.5L is a good engine, and i would testify to that from experience. but putting a 2.7L into it would be a sin.

wasn't one a 2.7L magnum. i mean the 3.5L makes a world of difference over the 2.7L even though it only has 50hp on it. the 2.7L has a pretty ****ty power curve it seems. it has nothing until the much higher RPMs. with my tank i mean Pacifica i could light up the tire with the 3.5L without even brake torquing it. i don't know what ESP does it to it, but that 3.5L can hold its own.

i have driven both of the LX V6s...the 250hp 3.5L would feel much stronger if it didnt have to turn the weight of the auto trans...figure this...stock for stock, the stratus RT coupe is a SECOND faster with the manual over the auto...(with a professional driver)..so, take the power loss due to the automatic tranny, and then add the increased drivetrain loss of a RWD....i really think that even the 2.7 would almost feel "peppy" with a manual.

While I personally would get the most HP I could afford, The new mustang v6 aint half bad. In fact it has more HP than some previous GT's so if dodge puts out a V6 with the idea of performance like the V6 Stang then they would have an entry level winner on their hands. Having test drove a new V6 Stang I was impressed, was still holding out for the Shelby, then along came the Challenger, bye bye mustang!

A Challenger with anything other than a V-8 would be a sin........

With the MDS 5.7 there is no need for a V\6 in the Challenger. Engine line up should be 5.7, 6.1, 6.4.
A 6.4??! Is that something that Dodge has mentioned? I've only heard of the 6.1.

the 6.4L (392ci) Hemi is currently available as a crate motor, and it has been rumored that it will make an appearance in something in the next few years as the sort of "supreme srt motor"...
