Default What gear ratio in Challenger?

I was thinking with the 6 speed, they could put some steep gears in the Challenger and still have it "highway friendly". Myself, I assume they'll do 3:06 or very similar, like the Charger and Viper. But 3:55s or 4:10s could be really FUN, tough on gas mileage, but not many of us are buying it for mileage anyway. Maybe steel some 3:73s from the truck bin

Ford has put 3:27s, & 3:55s in their Mustang GTs, Cobras and Marauders, so it is not out of the realm of possibility. I suspect the EPA requirements is what will doom any steep gears, particularly when mated to the 6.1 Hemi.

...There is always the after-market though...

I'm thinking 3:55's or 3:73's. I think your right about the EPA requirements. But stock 3:92's or 4:10's would be killa!!![sm=gears.gif]

Well, I have heard that a T-56 Tremec will be the manual, which is the same transmission used in the Viper, Corvette, and supercharged Mustang Cobras. The EPA ratings claim it will have the same mileage as the SRT-8 models with the A580 auto transmission, so I would guess if the EPA ratings are the same, they will offer a lower speed rear axle. They could offer a 3.55 or 3.92 and still get around the mileage that they get for the automatic model because the A580 has only a .83 overdrive vs. the T-56 Tremec has a .50 as its top overdrive.

I hope you're right Intrepid. 3:55 or 3:92 make a big difference in around town "punch" as well as 1/4 mile!

I would guess it to get the Chargers rear end with the SRT-8 version possibly getting the Vipers Dana 44 rear.

I'm guessing it will have below a 3.55, the Viper has less than that.

Hopefully 3.92 will be available, but I doubt it, also I hope it has a solid axle, my GTO has IRS, what a pain for straight line performance, and expensive to work on. I just changed my GTO from the stock 3.46 to 3.91, what a blast to drive now, feels 500 pounds lighter and can actually use 6 gear in the hilly Shenandoah Valley !!!!!
