World Speed Record Set in Dodge Charger: Russ Wicks, who holds World Speed Records of more than 200 miles per hour on both land and water, has set a stock car world record of 244.9 miles per hour, which has been confirmed by Guinness World Records. Wick successfully achieved the record on Tuesday, October 9 at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Northwestern Utah while driving a 2007 Dodge Charger built to NASCAR specifications. The new mark shatters Wicks´ previous stock car world speed record of 222 miles per hour. Doesnt really impress me. If you were saying this was a modded street car or a performance hybrid or something....thenit would impress me.....but owning the land speed record in a stock car designed for racing isnt the end all be all...

You should check out the Dodge Dakota Sidewinder with the Cummins Turbo Diesel in it......now that land speed record was impressive...

 

He has a point, I believe the only "stock" parts of a stock car are the hood, roof and trunk lid. I could be wrong. Sill, at least it was named a Dodge Charger, can't take that away...

Oh, I know I've opened it up for the age old Charger name debate, spare me the crying game. Its the name of a CAR...

Yup 222mph in a diesel dakota is impressive. And I believe it holds another record. The only vechicle that tryed for a landspeed record that actually towed its own trailer

 

I agree w/ Reject. It's all good that it's a Dodge w/ the record but to call it "stock" when it's built to NASCAR spec. Take one off the lot, put on sticky tires and maybe allow a program upgrade (superchips, predator whatever) to unlock the full potential of a factory motor and see what we get. I wonder how fast anyone has had their stock ride up to? I think the factory governer is set at 140, but I've got a Predator and had mine up to 142. That scared the fecal matter out of me when she shifted into fifth gear at 135 mph! I already thought I was in fifth! Sure felt like she had another 20 or 30 mph to go...

 

I saw a home video clip of a guy getting his up tp 160 shot from inside the car showing the speedo. Didn't look fake but took it with a grain of salt anyways. Haven't had the place or opportunity to try to duplicate it for myself....yet -Rob
