trans dip stick on hemi?
when changing my oil for the first time i noticed my trans pan was wet. i went to check the fluid and i found a cap that said for dealer use only. is there suppose to be a dipstick on a 5.7 hemi?
DCX conviently left those out, you have to go to the dealer to get it checked out. On the transmission pan being wet... there is an known issue with the o-ring that seals the filling tube when your at the dealership have them check it out. If your cars under warranty it will be fixed for free.
that would be a cup seal on the nag trannys. AS for the dip stick u can not check it because the fluid is mesured based off tranny temp which u will need a CAN scanner to even get that sorta info pain in the butt i know thats Daimler for ya.
Thanks guys im calling in tomorrow to get it fixed. I appreciate the help. Im halfway mechanicly incline and this was something i just have never seen. thanks again. Mike from Hamvegas,IN(hammond)
Interesting concept about not being able to measure transmission level because of tranny temp. All auto trans dipsticks that I've ever seen have a cold and hot range to allow for the thermal expansion of the transmission fluid when hot. This simple method has been successfully used for almost a century, why make it complicated? KISS!! (Keep It Simple, Stupid)
Checking the dipstick every fillup saved my kid a bunch of bucks when he found that he was using trans fluid. Turned out to be a leaking chain cover gasket. If he hadn't been able to check the fluid level, the transaxle would have been destroyed when it ran dry.
Personally, I trust seeing oil on a stick more than some calculated amount that a computer might think is adequate. I might be biased though, by spending over 35 years of repairing and replacing failed or faulty electronic components for a living.
