Default Tapping Noise on Engine

V6 , 3.5L Charger SE - 2007

hi guys .. im new here.
whats happening is .. im living in a country which there is only one
service center for Dodge & Jeep.

after 105,000 KM .. im getting very loud tapping noise , when i start
the car after being idle for 6-7 hours and it will go away after a min or two.

i've read the post of other guys
facing the same problem .. but i never had this noise before .. so i took
the car to authorized workshop ( there is only 1! funny ) .. and automatically
these dudes told me that i have to change all 6 cylander .. and it cost over 2000 USD !
im really fed up with the way they treat customers like they have no other option but listen to what they say and waste lots of money
just for them to make crazy profit and decorate their workshop and serve free coffee.

im not very technical person in terms of cars.
any advice on this ?! .. what can i do to fix this issue insted of listening to
unfair dodge workshop guys ?!

Since the noise goes away shortly after starting there isn’t need for alarm. The tapping noise is caused by cold and insufficient oil in the lifters. As the engine stands, not running, the oil that was circulating while running goes to oil pan. On starting, the oil needs time to circulate back to all the parts. Try an oil change with a good oil additive. This happens as car engines get older.

I would like to also add a little something that I do with all my cars.

When you start the car for the first time, you will notice that it will run at or near the 1200 rpm mark. Let the car run for a minute until the RPM's drop below the 1000 RPM mark. This indicates that the engine has pressurized, oil is flowing and warm up has begun. It usually only takes about 45 seconds to a minute and a half for this to happen and it lessons the strain on the engine compared to starting and going quickly.

I also will say that I agree with Mango on his option. If you do not do your own oil changes, then after you have one done, just goto the auto parts store and pick up a good additive and add it your self. Nothing to that. You don't need to be a technical person for that and no tools required.

I don't know how loud the tapping is in your car, but I can tell you that I have heard tapping on the 2.7 and the hemi engines as well. It seems that it is the dodge way for some reason.
