Default ball joints and tie rod ends

My TB has 47k miles and It feels like I am getting tossed around when I hit a bump in the road. Do I need ball joints and tie rod ends replaced?

What else should I get done while the mechanic does this work? Should I buy my own parts instead of letting the mechanic pick thier own? They will let me do this.

Sounds like the tie rods are bad. It’s a substantial rattle and feeling thru the steering wheel that seems unsafe.

Any easy check with the outer tie rod: wrap your hand around the bottom of the tie rod, palm on the bottom, and then try to squeeze it. If you feel more than a tiny amount of play, then the tie rod is bad/going bad, don’t wait for a clunk to develop.

Get a tire alignment once their replaced.

The stock tie rods are not the best in the world and there are aftermarket out there. I haven't shopped for these parts in quite some time but google is your best friend when it comes to looking around for parts.

Possibly a forum vendor looking for business will chime in.

Also, the answer depends on how long you anticipate keep the car.
