Charger SRT 8
ok first of all you are in a DODGE forum...u dont come in here and ask us to compare a dodge to anything....it doesnt work that way. and second of all the chrysler SRT series is going to be the best series of cars in history. so in simple words go for the SRT-8!
ORIGINAL: BTurk
Nissan Altima: 3300 lbs / 260 hp = 12.7 pounds per hp
Dodge Charger SRT-8: 4000 lbs / 425 hp = 9.5 pounds per hp

Dodge Charger SRT-8: 4000 lbs / 425 hp = 9.5 pounds per hp
Hmm... what would that look like for the other Charger Models? Or you going to make me do division?
He ain't heavy, he's my Charger! But seriously - the SRT 8 does stomp the Altima. Here are a few Car & Driver test specs:
Altima SE-R: 0-60 6.1, 0-120 25.1, Top Speed 141, 1/4 mile 14.8@97, 19MPG
Charger R/T w/R&T option: 0-60 5.6, 0-120 20.8, Top Speed 145, 1/4 mile 14.2@101, 19MPG
300C SRT-8: 0-60 4.7, 0-120 15.9, Top Speed 173, 1/4 mile 13.2@109, 14MPG
Since the 300C SRT-8 is the sister car to the Charger SRT-8 performance should be similar. No offense, but Altima Puh-lease!

Well, I actually am kind of new to the Dodge family, so to speak. I have been a mustang man for about 15 years and I am in the process of selling it and going to purchase the SRT8 Charger when it comes out. Now, I will say I have done quite a bit of research since I've decided to go this route. Here's what I know:
Right now GSmotorsports.com is really the only place that offers much for the hemi's as far as performance goes. They do have superchargers for both the 6.1 and the 5.7. There are a couple of kits for the 5.7...one that gets you to around 400 RW horses and then an upgrade capable of 500 RWHP. If you're going to go the supercharging route (right now the only one offered is a Paxton supercharger through GS but it's a complete kit with fuel upgrades and an aftercooler as well) then the 5.7 is probably the best way to go because the piston compression ratio is 9 to 1...so it can take more boost. The 6.1 SRT8 got it's increase to 6.1 because of the bore and they up'd the compression ratio to 10 to 1. Now, I won't go into any more of that because you can read it just about anywhere there's an article about the SRT8 but the higher the compression on a piston, the less boost it can take. BUT they do say the SRT8 is pretty safe to get up to about 450 RW with a cam change AND going with headers and a free flowing true dual exhaust. Apparrently the computer in the LX line is pretty tough to crack and these upgrades should be fairly easy for it to handle. Now, I have talked to a friend of mine who works at JMS (Johnson motorsport) which basically is owned by Chris Johnson who started SCT (superchips technology) and was informed by Monty they are almost done with the tuners for both the 5.7 and the 6.1 liter hemi. So, apparently THEY HAVE cracked the code and are about ready to dyno tune the hemi's. These guys personally rebuilt my mustang from the ground up and it's gets about 505 RWHP. It's a monster and a VERY nice car so i trust that what they tell me is true. Anyway, enough about the mustang, I know this is a Dodge forum. Now let me also tell you what Monty told me about dyno tuning and the SRT8. Even with the compression ration being high on the pistons, that doesn't put it out of the running for a supercharger. Now of course they aren't even out yet so all this information is hypothetical but from what Monty told me...there should be no problem putting a supercharger on it for a couple of reasons...the SRT8 has a new thing where it has oil squirters that spray on the pistons to keep them cool and avoid detonation...this is a monumentally wonderful invention...the GS motorsport kit also has an aftercooler which is even MORE insurance to keep the pistons cool and free of detonation AND lastly...JMS would install a methanol injection kit just after the supercharger that is set to come on at around 4 psi and spray a 50% methanol 50% water mix into the inlet tube (perfectly safe for the engine...planes have been using it for decades now). So, theoretically there are 3 (count them) 3 fail safes to keep the car cool and keep the pistons from detonation. And by dyno tuning standards those are pretty safe odds. GS motorsports rates this supercharger kit for the SRT8 (and they have already installed it on some magnums and 300's by the way) at 505 RWHP and around 507 pounds of torque. With the addition of the cams, the headers and exhaust and methanol (methanol allows you to advance the timing even more and since it IS a race fuel it raises your octane level) then it should be possible to get close to 600 RWHP out of this car, safely. Well, safely for the pistons and the REST of the engine. However, as previously mentioned in this thread there is the unsurity of the tranny. Is it good enough to hold up to 500 to 600 horsepower? Well, I can tell you...I AM a speed freak...so I know I will be one of the first to try it out and see. I hope this helps with some of the questions here and feel free to ask me more...I have a pretty good bit of experience with my current car and dynos so I can hopefully answer any more questions you may have. Overall, because of the suspension upgrades as well as the performance upgrades, I would DEFINITELY suggest waiting for the SRT8 Charger. I think it's going to be a world better than the 5.7 although comparing an altima to EITHER of these Hemi's is like comparing a mustang GT to a Ford GT...no comparision.

Well, this is VERY true but I almost bet that if Dodge had called it something that they just MADE up...it wouldn't be getting NEAR the press it is. Brings me back to the "even negative attention is still attention". The four door part is actually what attracted me to it because at 35 I will have to start thinking about settling down perhaps starting a family so something like this would be a LOT easier to convice the little woman to let me have since the family could ride in it comfortably...I LOVE the new Shelby cobra but it's mainly only good for a trip for 2 to the beach. Not to mention the only way anyone's ever really going to see my 4 doors is from behind...so I can live with that.
