Default 2011 Charger R/T - rough idle.

Gentlemen,

I was wondering if anyone out there has had the same experience as myself. My 2011 Charger R/T has always had a bit of a shimmy at idle. The idle is smooth, at least according to the tachometer, but inside the cab you can feel the motor bouncing around a bit.

The worst part is that it is intermittent and doesn't happen all the time. I have yet to narrow down exactly when it happens.

I have opened the hood before while experiencing the issue and have seen the motor bounce a bit at idle. Other times it is rock solid (like every time I take it in for service, figures right?).

Anyone else? Or am I crazy?

Eddie

Eddie,

If the condition persists, the next time you take it to the dealer have them look up the following case to see if it pertains to your vehicle. The case deals with vibration at idle troubleshooting.

Case# S1121000011
Release Date: 8/23/11

My 2009 rt has been doing this for the last 15000kms or so. My idle also drops to about 500rpm. Some days its worse then others, and it seems like quick changes in temperature make the problem worse. I've read about numerous others having the same issues so it seems common. I have had it at the dealership because of it but the starscan tool was not finding any codes.

Default Lumpy Idle Normal

I have two Charger R/T's, 2006 and 2009, and both have an irregular idle. The dealer says it's normal. It's just a little strange and thought provoking, but it is normal.

Have you all seen the condition continue if you change fuel stations ? Are the cars sensitive to the ethanol blend? My 07 Escalade did this but the root cause was never found.

My car idle and now is making a popcorn noise from the rear end passenger side . The noise and the popcorn noise will increase in cold weather and in rain . The gas I dont think has made a difference switching from 76, shelf and back to chevron.

Hey did you ever find out what the issue was? I just got a 2011 Charger RT and mine idles a little rough and shakes randomly in park. It also makes a whisk sound when the revs drop back under 1k. I'm taking it to the dealer later on just wanted to know what it was.
