Default Rust

I have a 2008 Charger. It has developed rust. Why? I am the only owner. It is in a garage when at home. The first five years I owned it, I worked and parked it in a garage. It rarely has sat outside. Even during the winter, I have washed it, to include underside hosing during the winter months.

It has developed rust at rear left door just in front of the left rear wheel well. My wife's dodge Grand Caravan is a 2004 and hasn't had nearly the inside treatment, but has no issues.

What's going on?

I also own a 2008 Charger and mine has started developing a rust spot on each door on the very edge of the door on the seam on the vertical part of the door near bottom corner of the door. Both front doors have this problem and the rust is in the same exact location on both doors. The 2 rear doors also have a rust spot on the hinge side of the door where the back door meets the front door on the vertical part of the door on the seam near the bottom part of the door. Both rear doors have the rust spot in the exact same location. Has anybody else in here had this problem? How have you fixed it? I live up here in the northeast in New England and I drive my car in the winter in the snow and salt. I bought my car brand new and have been driving it 5,000 miles per year for the last 10 years. I've taken excellent care of my Charger since the day that I bought it new.
I just noticed the rust spot on each of the 4 doors during this fall. I touched up the rust spots with a thick coating of touch up paint, but the touch up paint keeps coming off and the rust spot reappears. I'm going to take my car to the body shop during the spring time and have them sand down the and encapsulate the rust and then spot paint each vertical door edge and blend in the paint with the rest of the door. I'm hoping that this will stop the rust from reappearing.

Once it starts it’s damn near impossible to stop. You are fighting a losing battle.

I have the same feeling about this. I'm going to try to get it sanded down and encapsulated and fixed in the spring time. Hopefully, this will hold up for the next 4 to 5 years before the rust reappears again. I hate that these cars are so super expensive ($30,000 for the 6 cylinder and $43,000 to $50,000 for the V8 Charger RT) and that they start rusting after 9 to 10 years.

Run em and retire em my friend! Hopefully you didn't waste money on full synthetic oil because when you trade it in it wont be worth a penny more if you did.I learned that lesson about 10 years ago with my RAM..
