Dodge Charger The Dodge Charger. The car that made its competitors shiver in the 60's is reborn in 2006 into a sleek sedan that can still send the competition home wimpering, the Dodge Charger.

Default Thoughts?

I have a 2008 Dodge Charger SRT8 with 102k miles on it. I was driving on my way to work yesterday when I heard a loud noise right as I accelerated on to the highway. At that point I could only go about 40 mph. I pulled off to the side of the road and as I slowed down, the car cut out. I stopped the vehicle and put it in park. Gave it a minute or 2 thinking it was over heated and just needed some time to cool down. I turned the key and it started right up, however I could not get up to speed. Put my hazard lights on and made my way to the first gas station I could get to (maybe half a mile away). I had the car towed to the mechanic I have been using for the past 7 years for him to check out. He called me a few hours ago and said that my car blew a rod and would cost about $5,300 to put in a new motor.

My question is should I fork out the money and have my baby brought back from the dead or should I cut my losses and get something newer? I am getting a second opinion tomorrow from a guy I know who has a garage, but I feel like I should trust my mechanic I have used for the last 7 years.

Depends on how attached you are to the car.

I am pretty attached to it, however $5,300 is a lot of money. I did get a second opinion and it is a little better, but still a lot of money. I got quoted $4,500. Sadly I think I am going to cut my loses and get something new. I started doing research on the Charger R/T 392's. It is going to be a sad day, but I think it might be better in the long run as I can use the quoted $4,500 for money down, towards something newer or possible performance parts

You'll have no trouble at all selling the car as is. Just don't buy new and get hosed

Well I am currently in communication with Koons in Tyson's Corner
Virginia about a Group Buy Program they have. The are selling R/T 392's for super cheap. And when I mean super cheap, I mean it. I took the deal I currently have in place to my local dealer and they told me that I must be on some kind of drug as I would never get that kind of deal. I showed them written proof and said there is no way they could be doing that kind of a deal. My wife actually purchased a Jeep Wrangler from them using the same program and it was a great experience and they held true to the deal. I am waiting for my wife to give me the green light on it. Once she does, I am going to buy a plane ticket and fly in this weekend.
