2006 Charger 3.5 Engine Shuts Off No Warning
Hi I've seen similar posts on other sites, but some are quite old. I'm hoping maybe some recent experiences might help me.
Last year my '06 Charger (3.5) would stall out when the car would slow down or stop at a light. I replaced the EGR valve and it worked fine for about a year. Now car has about 85,500 miles. So Its getting up there but pales in comparison to the mileage of most other cars the same age.
Then this spring same problem I bought ANOTHER EGR valve, because they wouldn't pass my inspection without it (Crooks). This is the 2nd in two years at about $200 each including the installation. This was about April of this year.
In July the car's engine started stopping again two months after the new EGR valve. This time I replaced the alternator. Has worked for about a month, but started dying again just a few days ago. The issue is there is no warning which is extremely dangerous not only to myself but to other drivers on the road. There is no check engine light so there are no codes being generated. The car is pretty much a death trap, but my only means of getting to work. Between the two EGR valves the alternator, and the installation I've spent over $1000 on this problem and it hasn't gone away. Its to the point I should just get rid of the car...but who buys vehicles that stall...what kind of jerk would sell a vehicle that stalls? I really need answers here! It seems to be a known issue so its really frustrating there are no official "fixes". Any help out there?

Had a similar issue with my '06 Chrysler 300. The car would give me hard misses, and shut down the dash/automatic headlamps while driving.
Turned out to be the ignition switch. The weight of the key cantilevered out of the switch would cause intermittent connections and shut down the ECU/body computer. Replaced the switch about 3 years/ 30K miles ago and have not had an issue since.
You could try removing everything from your key chain to lighten the load on the switch (as a test).
